It's not the auto tech that's the problem. It's the air/traffic control issue and the amount of people who can't seem to grasp flight and how it works. Driving is easy, it makes mechanical sense. Aerodynamic sense is still too hard to get a grip on for a lot of people, because even for the engineers it is still a bit of black-art.

We haven't evolved enough to deserve these yet.

Flying cars is the pipe dream of too many generations. Just buy a car and a plane... or for the estimated price of a "Flying Car" buy several cheap cars and several cheap planes....
